Praetrix
julilla at villaivlilla.com
Julilla Sempronia Magna has been active in her province and the wider world
of Nova Roma since becoming a civa NovaRomani in March of 2001.
She was appointed by former Propraetor Lucius Mauricius
Procopius as webmistress for the provincial web site, then served
NovaRoma as chief Rogator (vote counter) in 2002. She was appointed
praetrix of Provincia America Boreoccidentalis by the Nova Roma
senate in February of 2003 and served as accensa to senior consul
Caeso Fabius Quintillianus. She was elected tribuna plebis for
the year 2757 and continues to serve as scriba to Censor Gnaeus
Equitius Marinus and Senior Consul Franciscus Apulus Caesar. She
was adlected to the Senate in Januarius 2758.
Julilla's fascination with ancient history is of some duration: early in her schooling,
she was fascinated by tales of Greek and Roman myths read aloud by the school
librarian. While studying for her baccalaureate degree she lived abroad in
Salzburg, Austria, and travelled throughout Europe, including the countries of
Greece and Italy.
Julilla is seldom without a book at hand, and chose her praenomen
back in the winter of 1995 shortly after reading Colleen McCullough's The First Man
in Rome. She registered on a discussion board for the online game SPQR and has been lost to
modern sensibilities ever since. She ascended to the pantheon of demigoddess-hood at the former
online community, AncientSites, and its inheritor, AncientWorlds.
Julilla speaks French, German and
Latin in addition to her native English, is a freelance writer and
web designer, and lives in central Washington with her husband and
youngest son. Both share her passion for history, albeit for
different time periods, and are good-natured about dining on Roman
cuisine.
